Collusion seeks Advisory Board members09 May 2024

Collusion is looking for two new Advisory Board members as advocates for the following policy areas in the Arts Council England Investment Principles, that inform our work: i) Inclusivity & Relevance, and ii) Environmental Responsibility.

Collusion nurtures collaboration between artists, technologists and academics, employing R&D and playful, practice-led approaches to develop skills and innovative new artworks that captivate the public with novel experiences. We actively harness technology’s creative potential and explore its impact on society.

Our vision is to transform the intersection of art and technology into a crucible for interdisciplinary collaboration, experimentation and creativity, where Collusion is a national driver for pioneering practice-led artistic experimentation with tech to create innovative artworks that engage the public in novel ways. 

This year, Collusion is 10 years old. We’re a small but growing non-profit organisation (company limited by guarantee) with a team of six, all working 0.8FTE. Most of our work is grant-funded and we receive core funding as an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (2023/24 – 2026/27). Over the past decade we’ve developed a strong reputation, working collaboratively with artists and a range of partners, including other cultural organisations, Higher Education Institutions, and local authorities.

About the Advisory Board //
Collusion’s Advisory Board, led by Chair Sherry Dobbin, has been established for one year, forming as Collusion was awarded our NPO status. The current board of six members work across arts and culture, the tech sector and higher education institutions. 

As well as having an interest and expertise in one of the policy areas identified above, Advisory Board members will: advocate for and make introductions to potential supporters, partners, investors; advocate for innovation and access in the art/tech sector; and advise the organisation in prioritising decisions for the long-term organisation development. 

Commitment //

  • A two to three year term, attending quarterly Board meetings (2 online, 2 in person – usually in Cambridge, and we can cover travel expenses where required).
  • Outside of Advisory Board meetings, provide specialist advice which might be through sub committee meetings. 
  • Attend at least one public Collusion event per annum.

The opportunity // To support Collusion as we enter our 10th year:

  • To develop an ambitious three year business plan that will build on our success to date and provide a platform for future growth and development.
  • To create sector leading tools and practices relating to environmental responsibility
  • To build on a strong track record of supporting artists from underrepresented communities, to improve diverse representation and inclusivity across all our programmes and our team.

It is crucial that we recruit advisory leadership from diverse perspectives and lived experiences to increase participation from groups that are currently underrepresented in the arts or governance positions.  We welcome applications from individuals from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, the global majority, those who identify as non-binary or LGBTQ+, or those who are d/Deaf, disabled, neurodiverse and other affiliations. There is support for those who have not held a board position in the past or require additional support to participate.
