Collusion announces REVEAL – the world’s first Active Reality project31 October 2018

This Christmas something very special is happening in King’s Lynn …

From Sunday 25th November until Friday 4th January 2019, the world’s first active-reality adventure story, REVEAL, comes to King’s Lynn.  It is unlike anything that has been seen before.

Right across the town and at various locations in west Norfolk (King’s Lynn, Hunstanton & Downham Market), a thrilling episodic story is set to unfold using live shows, projection and the latest augmented reality technologies. This story engages the public in an extraordinary and wide-ranging interactive hunt for clues on their mobile phones.

Described as ‘an active-reality adventure unfolding all around you’, this major new arts and tech project has been created by a multi-talented and diverse team of over 30 people. These include international, national and local award-winning artists, writers, playwrights, musicians, technologists and illustrators, all collaborating to create something on a huge scale and never-before-seen.

REVEAL is the story of a young woman who arrives in King’s Lynn and is given a quest by Margaret of Antioch. With the help of the people of King’s Lynn and west Norfolk, can she complete her adventure by collecting the clues and cracking the code to save King’s Lynn?  Following the launch and up until the 23rd December, the public are invited to use mobile phones to discover clues and other content each day, including geo-locative and augmented experiences.

This is an ambitious project of national significance that delivers the first ever ‘active reality’ arts project. Active Reality is a way of describing a project that brings multiple elements together in an episodic manner – in this case live shows, augmented reality and large-scale projection. These are then laid over a specific location, in this case the Norfolk town of King’s Lynn, to create a reality-bending adventure story.

REVEAL launches at 4pm on Sunday 25th November as part of the switching on of the Christmas lights in the Tuesday Market Place.

REVEAL is a joint project between arts organisation Collusion and the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk. The project is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, with additional support from the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority, Discover King’s Lynn, and Norfolk County Council.
